Its Halloween in the Witch City

 

Come on by and visit the madness. We tend to get 100,000 people walking through our downtown all dressed up. People come from the surrounding towns and from all over the world to partake in Salem on this special night once a year! There will be several live performances on outdoor stages, a carnival, psychic fairs, a vampire from Salem's Lot, a Frankenstein Monster with a portable lab, and some spooky graveyards. Spirits walk the streets this night of the year, so be careful. They do become more visible and slightly stronger to weakened wills; so watch the amount of spirits you drink so they do not get into you...

The Witch House and Pioneer Village in Forest River Park, location of an old Native American museum and grounds designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead, offers ghostly tales with period actors either in an old 16,000's house or a 16,000's village center around a bonfire. One of my favorites.

Look for our local Brazilians, Halloween is a festival for them filled with mirth and lots of dancing. To avoid the crowds look for food within five minutes walk outside of downtown at Major McGleashes or Georgia's Pizza. great food, great prices, no waiting. Also check out the haunted parking lot where the Salem Ferry departs. This was the site of a haunted boat house which burned down. These ghosts will play with your cellphone or camera by displaying orbs, draining your battery, or displaying strange warning messages. Once they even tossed my cellphone 25 feet into an open manhole. Strange things do happen in Salem. Also check out the scrap metal sculpture yard in the parking lot.

What is a Rune Reading?

 Runes are the old written script used in Scandinavia before and the after the Viking age. The were created around 1 B.C. and were developed from an older Greek alphabet. The first letter of any word in Old Norse written with the Runes holds the power.  Ur (the letter in the chart below next to U) stands for the strength of the auroch which was an ancestor of our modern bulls. So all words relating to strength or cows would start with that letter like rodeo, cowboy, and dairy would start with Ur in old Norse. Pulling Ur would relate to your strength or another person's within the question asked of the reader.

The Scandinavian alphabet was called the Elder Futhark (named after the initial phoneme of the first six rune names: F, U, Þ, A, R and K) has 24 runes, often arranged in three groups of eight runes called an ætt^[2] (pl. aettir). In the following table, each rune is given with its common transliteration:

Another factor held within the Scandinavian frame of mind is that there is 3 aspects to our world: The Past, The Present, and the Future. Within their culture they called the three goddesses who govern these principles were called the Norns. The city Nuremberg is named after them. The sister who governs the future is called Skuld; our word should comes from her. They believed nothing was written in stone. A rune reading is much like algebra. A+B=C. If A is how you view the past, B is how you view the present they will add up to C which is your future. At any time you change your view of the past and change how you act in the present, you will change your future. So any Rune reading will only tell you what should happen. Like in quantum physics, observation changes everything; once you observe your past and present you have the choice to change your perception of the past and the way you act in the future. Then C is changed.

When studying the Runes, remember the definitions for each character that is less than two sentences is the most correct. Some books will write 2 pages of information about a rune like Ur, but it only means strength. In a reading it could refer that you will have the strength needed to find a new job.

There are many ways to cast a rune reading; no way is better than another. My favorite is to let the questioner pull their first Rune to get their energy into the question. Then I will continuing reading the Runes until I feel the answer was answered. Sometimes it is only a pause to get the questioner's input and I will continue again. Sometimes a single pull of the Runes will answer the question. Sometimes only 3 runes are needed to come up with the past, present, and future that are relevant to the question.

Old languages were used by merchants to keep track of inventory, tally sales, and for strategic planning to better business. Today the Runes might be the best form of divination for strategic planning. The Runic symbols apply to things that were found on a farm and how to run it for prosperity and happiness. So you can apply these principles to any in depth planning to take control of your life and pursue your goals. The Runes demand the questioner to become an active participant within their lives instead of being caught within a whirlwind of fate. Self Love

One big block to self-love is that we make it conditional, i.e. I will love myself “only”, “when”, “if”, “because” and “after”. Making self-love conditional ensures there will always be a reason not to love ourselves yet. A Course in Miracles teaches us that these self-imposed conditions are “calls to love” i.e. they are a call to love ourselves even more… starting now!

“Why don’t you love yourself?” I asked Sally

“Well, for one thing, I’m 10 lbs. overweight,” said Sally. 

“How well is not loving yourself helping you to lose that weight?” I asked.

“Not very well,” she said, with a smile.

I explained to Sally that when we withhold self-love we are punishing ourselves, which causes us to make choices based on guilt instead of love. For instance, we eat that cookie, we skip an exercise class, and we forget to feed ourselves what we really need. However, if we say to ourselves, “It’s because I want to lose 10 kilos that I will love myself more,” this helps us to make choices based on love. Love is the answer.

“Why else don't you love yourself?” I asked.

“I don’t like what I see in the mirror,” she said. 

“Does not loving yourself make you feel more or less beautiful?”

“You know the answer to that,” she said.

Sally thinks she withholds self-love because, in her eyes, she is not beautiful enough. Really what’s happening is she can’t see how beautiful she is because she’s withholding self-love. No one can see their true beauty until they stop judging themselves. When you don’t feel loveable, for whatever reason, withholding self-love will make you feel worse. What makes you feel less loveable is what is calling you to love yourself more.

“I find it hard to love myself because I hate that I don't have more money,” said Sally.
“It sounds like you’ve made a deal with yourself that when you earn more money you will start loving yourself,” I said. 

“Exactly,” she said.

“How well is that deal working for you?” I asked.
“Not very well,” she said.

When we make self-love into a reward for getting life right, nothing goes completely right for us. Self-love is not a reward; it’s an enabler. Without self-love, we create a self-image that is impoverished and hasn't the first idea about real abundance. With self-love, we find our true self, and we are able to enjoy a relationship with money based on love not fear, innocence not unworthiness.

“One of the qualities I don’t love about myself is my envy,” said Sally.

“When you feel envy and jealousy, what do you do?” I asked.

“I hate myself. And I eat chocolate,” she said.

“Does covering your envy in chocolate make it any sweeter?”

“No,” said Sally.

One way we try to love ourselves is to stop loving ourselves until we are more loveable. This is weird logic. It’s weird because it isn't based on love. It’s only when we are willing to love the parts of us that are “unloveable” that they stop having such a terrible hold on us. All healing is a release from what seems to be unloveable. The more we love ourselves, starting from now, the more we show up in the world as the men and women we truly are.

Self-love is a gift for many reasons. Loving yourself connects you with your natural wisdom and thereby you make better decisions about what you eat, who you date, and how you live. The more you love yourself, the more you love others without conditions. It’s easier for others to love you, when you love yourself. Also, the more you love yourself, the more you recognize how loved you are. All of these gifts happen when you are willing to practice self-love now.

Not yesterday not tomorrow NOW is the real answer.

What is a Seance?

Séances are carried on as a part of the regular practice of Spiritism. Although the organisation of Spiritist centres may vary wildly from place to place, most of the time there is a basic core of elements shared by them.

Spiritist séances are quite different from the most frequently pictured scene mostly because they do not involve one medium, but several of them, and the conditions do not allow any of them to show-off more than the others. Moreover, it is often thought that it is the centre that is "strong", not a given medium. The other form is more theatrical as they raise tables, audible noises and voices are heard, and ectoplasm materializes.

As a consequence of the difficulties experienced in the past, Spiritist mediums will not evoke whom whose identity they can't be sure of and will not invoke vaguely some presence, which can be evil. They instead remain receptive to any spirit willing to communicate and will then incorporate those who wish to speak to the living attendants. Evocation may be sometimes done, in special meetings, but only when a medium "feels" that a given spirit may be willing to communicate.

Evocation of spirits, especially those of recently deceased people, was frequent in the beginning, but nowadays most Spiritists regard this practice as bothersome both to spirit, who is most likely still suffering, to his family, who may share some of the anguish experienced by him, and to the medium, who will probably face a much worse conflict and power loss. 

Many times those who watch over the people in the room; either a spirit guide or a love one will come through. Sometimes they are relaying messages for the lazy as well, 'By the way your mother wants me to tell you...' When you attend a seance, you will not always receive a message though. Just because you have a phone does not mean a friend will call in that hour. When you do, they will probably be short and to the point. For more in depth time with those on the other side you should book an appointment for a private mediumship reading. 

When you have a room full of friends who have been together communicating with the other side for quite sometime who share their ability to be open to their senses, that is when odd things can manifest like images of spirits, flickering of lights, sounds, and many other things. One last thing about spirits that can change one seance from another; spirits are still people with tastes and dislikes. They will only feel comfortable with people they would of felt comfortable with in life. If they do not like the president in the room leading the seance, or they make them feel nervous, they will keep quiet. If they do not like another spirit or person in the room, they will keep quiet. So if you don't get a message the first time, feel free to try again. Just don't get carried away.

What is a Tarot Reading?

The tarot (/ˈtæroʊ/; first known as trionfi and later as tarocchi, tarock, and others) is a pack of playing cards, used from the mid-15th century in various parts of Europe to play games such as Italian tarocchini and French tarot. In the late 18th century, it began to be used for divination in the form of tarotology/cartomancy.

Like common playing cards, the tarot has four suits (which vary by region: French suits in Northern Europe, Latin suits in Southern Europe, and German suits in Central Europe). Each suit has 14 cards, ten cards numbering from one (or Ace) to ten and four face cards (King, Queen, Knight, and Jack/Knave). In addition, the tarot has a separate 21-card trump suit and a single card known as the Fool. Depending on the game, the Fool may act as the top trump or may be played to avoid following suit. The Trump cards and the Fool are sometimes called "the major arcana" while the ten pip and four court cards in each suit are called minor arcana. The cards are traced by some occult writers to ancient Egypt or the Kabbalah but there is no documented evidence of such origins or of the usage of tarot for divination before the 18th century.

Playing cards first entered Europe in the late 14th century, most likely from Mamluk Egypt, with suits of Batons or Polo sticks (commonly known as Wands by those practicing occult or divinatory tarot), Coins (commonly known as disks, or pentacles in occult or divinatory tarot), Swords, and Cups. These suits were very similar to modern tarot divination decks and are still used in traditional Italian, Spanish and Portuguese playing card decks.

The break down of a deck made for readings and not poker:

The 78-card tarot deck used by esotericists has two distinct parts:

• The Major Arcana (greater secrets), or trump cards, consists of 22 cards without suits: The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, The World, and The Fool. Cards from The Magician to The World are numbered in Roman numerals from I to XXI, while The Fool is the only unnumbered card, sometimes placed at the beginning of the deck as 0, or at the end as XXII.
• The Minor Arcana (lesser secrets) consists of 56 cards, divided into four suits of 14 cards each; ten numbered cards and four court cards. The court cards are the King, Queen, Knight and Page/Jack, in each of the four tarot suits. The traditional Italian tarot suits are swords, batons/wands, coins and cups; in modern tarot decks, however, the batons suit is often called wands, rods or staves, while the coins suit is often called pentacles or disks.

Each reader tends to have a deck given or find their way to them. Mine was left behind on my bookshelf by someone. I might of even found them trash picking... Some have a lighter feel like Tarot of Ceremonial Magick Deck by Lon Milo DuQuette. This is the one I use; it has an ice cream sunday representing the love card. Others are bit darker like the Thoth deck. Some use oracle cards which are completely different than Tarot, but act the same way as a means of Morse code that the other side and the reader understands. Mostly the difference in cards is like the difference in the choice of language you speak. The translations will be the same.

The reader will have you shuffle the deck to get your energy on the cards while you are thinking of a question. You may tell the reader your question or keep it in your head. Sometimes if you are at a crossroad and there is not a clear answer, your reader might ask you what the question is or a hint. The answer is not always cut or dry; many factors may come into play. If you are confused about the question, so will the reader be. Some readers will only answer one question in the allotted time; usually 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Others will answer multiple questions. When a reader is trying to amaze he will just pull things out of thin air about you like a rabbit from a hat. If you need advice, come to your reader with a solid question in mind. Do not drift to another thought till you get your answer, because you might get the answer to your daydreaming and not your question. Stick to your question till you get your answer and understand it. If you keep asking questions before you get your first answer or start thinking about if you paid your meter, you will not get a good reading. If you are just not connecting to your reader, remember you have the first 5 minutes to tell them and get your refund or else forever hold your peace. Neither of you need to waste your time. There might be another reader in the shop who will be able to reader you; as long as you are not playing stump the psychic. This can backfire on you and the psychic will just pull out your skeletons from your closet that you rather keep buried.

If you are distracted easily, your reader can give you a general past, present, future reading using various patterns to lay the cards out for you during the reading. One popular shape is the cross.  These are more general readings, for general questions. I much prefer those people who know what they want to ask and then I can help them plan actions to take with their lives. For we are not all psychologists, some are, but we are only here to advise you no more than your barber, hairstylist, or bartender.

What is a Psychic Reading?

A psychic reading is a specific attempt to discern information through the use of heightened perceptive abilities; or natural extensions of the basic human senses of sight, sound, touch, taste and instinct. These natural extensions are claimed to be clairvoyance (vision), clairsentience (feeling), Claircognisance (factual knowing) and Clairaudience (hearing) and the resulting statements made during such an attempt. 

Even though Runes, Tarot, and crystal readings involve psychic powers, most of the time when someone asks for a psychic reading to be done it is to be done without any tools or aids. Another term is straight reading. One form or another is not better; it is a personal choice made by the reader how they communicate. Tools like Tarot provide a barrier between spirit and reader; whereas a straight reader allows an entity or spirit guide to have access to their mind directly. This needs a lot of protection and a strong solid mind to discern if trust should be given to that entity or spirit guide. 

Sometimes a reader will ask for an item of yours or the person you are asking questions about. From grabbing the item they will be able to tell you something about the person who handled it. You do not have to bring something to a reading, it is just one of the many things that can prove useful to the reader to help you find your answers you are looking for. Occasionally for clarification a straight reader might use one of the various divination tools like rune stones to clarify a complex thought. Many answers are not cut and dry producing a yes or no; they get more complex and need to be fleshed out more by the reader asking a few questions. Sometimes when the question is asked by the sitter, they are at a crossroads which could make the answer go either way. At this time the reader can help you plan your course.

Most readers are not scams. In fact if you are not connecting to your reader in 5 minutes, most of them will refund you your money. This way neither of your times are wasted. So most readers are highly gifted psychics. The question comes in is; do you want a magician who can guess your grandfather's middle name or the one who can give you good guidance? Some people come to readers just for entertainment; others for advice. Readers are not all trained psychologists, but some are. For legal purposes you can not act on their advice more than you would your bartender, barber, or hairstylist. You have the final say how to act on the answers you are given. If your reader is making sound sense, then take it into account when you choose how you will act.

The other important thing to know is an old Norse principle. They believed in the Norns as in Nuremberg (the city of the fates). The three sisters: Past, Present, Future.  One pulls the skein of your life, the other measures, and the last cuts. The last sister for future is called Skuld; our word should comes from her. The prediction should happen they would say. For it is an algebra equation; A + B=C. Change A to D and you will have a different answer. If anyway you change your perception of the past and/or you change how you act in the present; your future will change. Remember in quantum science the mere act of observation changes things on the atomic level.

So come with an open mind. Get a few readings from people before you choose one you will go to regularly. Regularly could be once a week or ever three years when you need one.  Everyone is different. Also remember that to get the most for your money, allow the reader to talk equally as you do; they just might have some good advice. Otherwise you just have an expensive listener, and those you can find free on a park bench.

What is a Mediumship Reading?

Mediumship is the practice of certain people—known as mediums—to purportedly mediate communication between spirits of the dead and living human beings. Humans have been fascinated with contacting the dead since the beginning of human existence. Cave paintings by indigenous Australians date back 28,000 years, some depicting skulls, bones, spirits and the afterlife. Several different variants of mediumship exist; arguably the best-known forms involve a spirit taking control of a medium's voice and using it to relay a message, or where the medium simply "hears" the message and passes it on. Most mediums hear the message or interpret symbols they see in their mind.

In Spiritism and Spiritualism the medium has the role of an intermediary between the world of the living and the world of spirit. Spiritualists classify types of mediumship into two main categories: "mental" and "physical"; we will be looking at the mental.

• Mental mediums purportedly "tune in" to the spirit world by listening, sensing, or seeing spirits or symbols.

Through mental mediumship spirits communicate with a medium by telepathy. The medium mentally "hears" (clairaudience), "sees" (clairvoyance), and/or feels (clairsentience) messages from spirits. Directly or with the help of a spirit guide, the medium passes the information on to the message's recipient(s). Some mental mediums can go into a  trance and remain conscious during a communication period, wherein a spirit uses the medium's mind to communicate. The spirit or spirits using the medium's mind influences the mind with the thoughts being conveyed. The medium allows the ego to step aside for the message to be delivered. At the same time, one has awareness of the thoughts coming through and may even influence the message with one's own bias. 

When a medium is doing a "reading" for a particular person, that person is known as the "sitter". All you have to do is open your mind to be receptive to the reading. Usually you have 5 minutes to tell the reader if you are connected to the reading or not; if not you can almost always ask for your money back. Please, don't just nod your head if you are not satisfied. That way your time and the mediums time is not wasted. Not every medium can read everyone. 

If there is a connection and the medium is proving to be useful and you understand what they are talking about go on. Whatever you hear from the medium is not written in stone, they are only communicating for another who once was as human as you are. Most of the time shortly after death one's personality does not change that much, but in time their spiritual growth continues even in the afterlife. Sometimes by communicating to them, you can help them on their journey. Also many people go to mediums just for clarification that they have been talking directly to the spirit all along. Good friends and loved ones can tend to say goodbye in your dreams before you even get the phone call informing you. This is quite common. 

If you are already talking to those who departed, then the medium can act as a counselor working with the living and the dead to hep both of them get closer to attaining bliss. Just remember that daily conversing with those on the other side can be done just between you two and leave the medium to the times when you believe both of you need help from a third party.

The Role of Your Feelings in Fullfilling Wishes

The strange and wonderful thing about your subconscious mind is that it always accepts as true what you feel to be true. The key words here are feel to be true. Your feelings allow your subconscious mind to spring into action. The way to understand something spiritually is through experiencing it. Your feelings are the tools you have for experiencing your subconscious mind and making it your material world reality. Your mission is to get to that place of assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, even if the wish has yet to materialize in your physical reality.

Impacting Your Subconscious Mind

1. The subconscious mind responds to suggestions. You can reprogram your subconscious mind so that it goes on its accustomed role of autopilot with mental and feeling images from yourself. Talk to this automatically receptive component of yourself, telling it that you are unlimited, and that you believe all things are possible. Fill it with images of you being all that you dare to become. Go to a quiet place and feel in your body what it would feel like were those thoughts in your imagination your present reality.

2. The subconscious mind possesses the power to manifest physical reality from thought. Every object and circumstance in this world is representative of a mental thought. All that now exists was once imagined—such is the power of the subconscious mind. But in order to partake of this incredible powerhouse of creation that you are, you must be able and willing to experience within yourself—in your mind—that which you wish to manifest. Thoughts become things when you feel them, and are able to impress them upon the subconscious mind, which will then take over.

3. Love is the feeling you must learn to assume. Subconscious mind is really a piece of the one mind, and you and I are living in that mind. This universal subconscious mind is the first cause, and the stuff from which all things are made. This thingless thing is really love. When you feel it, truly feel it within as your private inner awareness regarding what you would like to manifest, you gain the power of creation.

When you experience anger, frustration, fear, doubt, worry, stress, and so on, ramp up your love and immerse those negative feelings in a container of pure love. Simply choose to feel good because every moment of offering love brings your little sliver of subconscious mind into harmony with the all-creating one universal subconscious mind that is defined as love.

I trust I’ve awakened within you the awareness that your feelings play a huge role in your becoming a God-realized manifesting being. And remember that picturing the future without assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled is nothing but futile daydreaming.

Three Suggestions

— Practice feeling a thought that you have inserted into your imagination. Remember that a feeling is what you feel in your body as you contemplate what it is you wish to manifest or who you would like to become. Close your eyes and experience what that feels like in your body. Work with sensations that are not only your experience of what you are imagining in your body but are triggers that assist you in moving from a thought to a hardened physical reality.

— Whatever feeling you are attempting to notice in your body regarding your wishes or desire, bathe it in love—the synonym for God. Imagine what you want. Imagine and feel that love as if you were now in possession of it. Continue doing this using love, until your desire actually belongs to you. During this process remind yourself that the more love (God) you offer, the sooner desire becomes reality. Look into your mirror fearlessly, saying, I not only love you—I am love.

— Acquaint yourself with the subconscious mind. Your piece of subconscious mind acts on what you program into it so that it becomes your automatic mind acting habitually. Decide on a habit that you would like to be automatic—being generous, for example. Tell yourself, I am a generous person. Give something away in a spirit of generosity, even if it’s only a small coin or a word of encouragement.

The more thoughts and actions you practice around your new I am, the more the subconscious mind will react in kind until eventually it will act in generous ways out of a new habit that you’ve created. You have the power to impress upon the subconscious mind any I am of your choosing.
